Pre-Coated Quick-Install Wall Panels: How to Read the Spec

On a wall-panel RFQ, treat pre-coated as a factory-finished decorative face and quick-install as a joint-and-substrate question. Those two phrases appear on exporter listings, but they are not a published SONSILL hour figure and they are not a substitute for a product handle. Start from the full wall panel catalog, name a factory-finished sheet such as the UV solid-color matte 4x8 sheet, and write the finish system, sheet size, joint, and wall build-up before you ask for a price.

A solid matte sheet and a stone-look UV sheet share a factory-finished face, but they are different handles on the same catalog.

What do pre-coated and quick-install mean on a wall-panel RFQ?

Pre-coated, in buyer language, usually means the decorative face is applied in the factory and arrives as a finished sheet. On this catalog that face is typically a UV decorative layer on a PVC sheet. It is not the same sentence as a paint schedule written for site labour. Quick-install usually means the panel is meant to go up as a finished board with a planned joint, rather than being painted after hanging. It does not mean every room finishes in a published number of hours. Substrate, accessories, and the crew still set the programme.

Write both terms as questions the factory can answer. Which finish system is on this handle? Which joint and accessory set does this handle use? What wall is behind it? If those three answers are missing, a quote labelled quick-install is only a label. Add the room type as well, because a solid matte lobby wall and a matching colour in a service corridor can still use different accessories.

How does a factory-finished sheet differ from a site-painted board?

A factory-finished sheet ships with the colour and sheen already on the face. A site-painted board ships as a blank or primed surface and depends on the painter, the coating batch, and the site conditions. For a distributor catalog, the factory-finished route is usually the one you can show as a repeatable sample. For a designer who wants a unique site colour, a painted build-up may still be the right job, but it is not the job this article prices.

Solid colour, stone look, and wood look are still different catalog handles even when they share a UV process. Compare the solid matte sheet with a stone-look option such as the UV onyx translucent sheet or a wood-look option such as the UV oak wood-grain sheet. Do not ask for one price that covers all three faces. If you need a distributor packing plan after the spec is set, use the distributor page rather than turning this technical note into a partnership article.

Which spec items belong in the technical table?

Put the items that change packing, accessories, and documents on one table. Leave install hours off the table unless the contractor has timed the named product on the actual wall. SONSILL does not publish a store-wide comparison of install time against site painting. Export packing still matters on a factory-finished face: a scuffed corner on a solid matte sheet is a visible reject, so name the destination and whether you need extra face or corner protection on the carton.

Spec term How to read it What to send on the RFQ
Pre-coated / factory-finished The decorative face is applied before shipment. The product handle and the finish name you approved on the sample.
Solid / pure colour A plain colour face, not a printed marble or wood pattern. Colour reference and sheen, such as the solid matte sheet.
Sheet size The cutting and packing unit. The catalog size, or a cut size that must be confirmed.
Quick-install / joint A planned joint, not a published hour saving. Joint type, accessory list, and the wall behind the panel.
Export packing How the finished face is protected in transit. Destination and whether corners or faces need extra protection.

Wood-look and solid-color sheets can share a factory-finished process and still need separate handles on the RFQ.

Sources and buyer verification notes

The catalog and product examples come from the live SONSILL storefront. Finish repair method, joint list, MOQ, packing, and documents are quotation-specific and need merchant confirmation. Keep those source and merchant-confirmation notes with the spec table.
