How to Store Outdoor WPC Boards Before Installation

Store outdoor WPC dry and shaded until it is installed. One staff FAQ says those conditions can preserve quality for up to 12 months. How should the packs be stored?

Put the packs where rain does not hit them and where the sun does not bake one face all day. Dry means off wet soil and out of a puddle path. Shaded means a roof, a tarp that still lets the pack breathe, or an indoor bay. A closed container in a yard can be acceptable if it is not a greenhouse. The staff note does not bless every shed. It names the two conditions that matter first: dry, and shaded.

Leave the factory wrap on until the install crew needs the boards. Opening every pack to "let them air" is not in the FAQ. If a pack arrives torn, close the tear and move that pack under cover the same day. Write the date on the pack. The 12-month staff note is useless if nobody knows when the container landed.

Do not store the boards in a working corridor where forklifts clip the corners. A crushed corner is an installation problem later, and storage was the moment it happened. Give the stack a marked bay.

How long can outdoor WPC sit?

Use 12 months as the staff ceiling, not as a tested life for every handle. The FAQ says one staff note gives that window for dry, shaded storage, and it also says the time limit must be verified for the actual product. If your project slips past that window, ask before you install. Do not invent a second year because the boards "still look fine."

A shorter site delay is the normal case. Three weeks under a roof is inside the note. Three weeks in an open yard is not, even if the calendar looks kind. The condition beats the calendar. Sun on one face and rain on the other is the failure mode the sentence is trying to prevent.

Cleaning is a different question. Washing a dirty face is not a storage method, and a storage bay is not the place to experiment with sanding. Keep those jobs apart.

What should the warehouse write down?

Four lines are enough. Handle, arrival date, where the pack sits, and whether the wrap is intact. A handle such as the grey exterior WPC board tells the factory which profile you are holding. "Dark WPC" does not. If two profiles share a bay, label them. Mixed stacks hide the board that sat in the sun.

In this teaching setup, a distributor receives cladding on 1 March for a hotel that slips to November. The bay is indoors, shaded, and dry. The wrap stays on. November is still inside 12 months, so the staff note does not by itself stop the install. The distributor still asks if this profile wants an acclimation step the FAQ does not describe. The facade checklist is where the project buyer chooses the system. Storage starts after that choice has a handle. Do not reopen the whole facade question just because the packs are waiting.

When is the pack no longer in storage?

Once boards are fixed, this page stops. Rain on an installed wall is an exposure question, not a warehouse question. If the wrap is off and the boards are staged beside the scaffold for a day, treat that day as install staging and keep them covered overnight. A week of staging in the open is outdoor storage without the shade the FAQ asked for.
